What was the brief?

Posted by Margaret

I have to get this off my chest before next Thursday, after which we may not even remember some of our ‘glorious’ presidential candidates.

The Mary Davis campaign is running with the standard head and shoulders election shot (Brief: drive top of mind awareness and deliver snappy campaign message in a slogan).

But they have also posted full length shots, now what are they for?

Firstly they are typically so high up on telegraph poles that you can’t see her face or the slogan (so they were never going to be able to do the aforementioned face recognition or slogan delivery).

So what was this poster’s brief……
To remind the people that women presidents have served us well?
To remind the electorate that Uachtaran na hEireann needs to be turned out well to do us proud abroad?
To simply remind us that she is a woman (in, at time of her posters going to print, a field of men)?
(Or as I saw some wit post on Facebook, to tempt you to have a bowl of Special K)

In the early days given the field, it looked like perhaps being a woman was going to be enough, and surely being called Mary (a proven presidential moniker) was likely to give her an advantage.

But with 4 days to go, it looks like all the airbrushing in the world is not going to do it for Ms Davis
