The world’s first app album

Posted by Chris

Scott Snide was in the Science Gallery this afternoon giving a talk on interactive art and the inspiration behind his own creations. He also gave a preview of the music app he’s been helping develop for Bjork’s upcoming “Biophilia” album. Described as “a union of music, nature and science” it will be the world’s first ever app album. After seeing it, all I can say is “wow”.

The album app will exist as a universe in which 10 smaller ‘Single’ apps live. Each smaller app allows users listen, interact, play games and explore different aspects of the music. And just like the planets they represent, each one has it’s own unique environment to play in.

The idea that you don’t just passively listen and observe, but interact with themes and create unique experience, is what will make it such a ground breaking commercial album. It will also be an evolving entity that grows as new elements are added, just like a natural organism. Wired News description was “This is like the birth of cinema.” I won’t attempt to describe it further as it really is something you’ll have to experience for yourself. You can see a preview on Sniddes website as well as more on what the press have been saying. Release date is October 12th.
